Nerikomi

The technique has its origins in Japan, where layering and stacking clays coloured in different shades was a traditional craft. Today we see it as an open space for working with colour, structure and your own expression.

During the workshop you'll learn how to colour clay with pigments, how to mix subtle and contrasting clay shades and how to work them into layers and compositions. We'll stack the clay, slice it and gradually reveal the patterns forming inside.

Hand building is part of the workshop too – we'll show you how to join and shape the individual parts or use simple moulds. The final object is up to you – a bowl, a small plate, or feel free to experiment.

As a bonus, we have templates for various cups and vases, created in collaboration with a Boston artist working under the FROMFRAN brand. Her templates will help you achieve the perfect shape, and you'll only find them at our studio.

We put emphasis on material quality, detail and an individual approach. The workshop runs in a small group so there's room for focused work and guidance throughout the whole process.

The workshop suits beginners who want to go deeper as well as those already working with ceramics who want to expand their techniques.

Glazing your own pieces is not part of the workshop. We take care of the finishing touches – we glaze the pieces so that their structure and pattern stand out as much as possible.

Finished pieces are dried and fired in our studio and prepared for pickup. We'll tell you the date in person at the workshop and follow up by e-mail.

Nerikomi is a process you can't fully control – and that's exactly where its strength lies.

For groups

We also run the Nerikomi workshop as a teambuilding for smaller groups – we'll gladly prepare a tailored offer.

Cancellation policy and make-up sessions

For this workshop we are unable to offer a make-up session. Every place is reserved for you in advance, and once it's taken we can no longer offer it to anyone else.

For this reason the cancellation fee is 100 % of the course price. Please treat your booking as a final decision – it will help you avoid unnecessary complications.

Withdrawal from purchase:

If you purchase the course online, you have the legal right to withdraw from the contract within 14 days of purchase and request a refund to your account.
