What awaits you at the workshop

During the workshop you'll try working with clay from the ground up and gradually get to know how the material behaves on the wheel. We'll guide you through your first steps at the wheel – from the right posture to the shaping itself.

The workshop also covers trimming, an integral phase of wheel work. We'll demonstrate the technique in practice and you'll try it on pieces we've pre-thrown for you.

You'll leave the workshop with several pieces of your own and an experience you'll want to come back to. And everything you learn with us can be developed further any time in our open studio.

It's the perfect way to slow down, switch off and enjoy the pleasure of making things with your own hands.

We've been teaching wheel throwing since 2021. All our instructors have years of experience at the wheel. Several ceramicists who now make ceramics professionally got their start in our throwing course. The workshop is designed for individuals, friends and families – and couples love to come for a date.

What awaits you after the workshop

If you want to take your finished pieces home, you'll need to come back to the studio for trimming and glazing.

1. Trimming (finishing the shape)

After the workshop your pieces need to be finished. This step is called trimming and we already tried it together at the workshop – it's the final cleanup and shaping.

For trimming, book a self-service activity in our reservation calendar, ideally 3–4 days after the workshop. This reservation is not included in the workshop price.

2. First firing

After trimming, your pieces go through the first firing – we'll take care of that. As soon as your pieces are ready for glazing, we'll let you know with a JDEŠ GLAZOVAT (time to glaze) e-mail.

3. Glazing

Book a glazing slot in our reservation calendar. This reservation isn't included in the workshop price either. If you're not sure how to glaze, we recommend visiting the self-service studio during Monday consultation hours, when an instructor is available.

4. Final firing and pickup

We fire your glazed pieces once more. As soon as they're done, we'll send you a MÁŠ HOTOVO (all done) e-mail and you can pick them up and take them home.

Want to keep progressing?

You can join our practice lessons with an instructor. There we can revisit anything you like, based on what you need. At the lessons we'll practise throwing and trimming, try other shapes or work on whatever isn't quite clicking yet – and get you ready for the self-service studio, where you can create without instructors.

What do others say about it?

I rate the wheel-throwing workshop very positively. You can tell Nikol has a wealth of experience at the wheel and that many course participants have passed through her hands. Whenever I struggled with something, she knew exactly what I was doing wrong and how to correct me. On top of that, the whole workshop was run in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. I learned the basics of working at the wheel and took home 5 pieces. Wheel throwing hooked me so much that in the first few months after the workshop I spent dozens of hours in the studio, which got it into my hands quickly. And that's exactly what I'd recommend to everyone who finishes the workshop: book a few hours at the wheel, practise, think it through, and you'll see how quickly you progress.
